Nicky Reeves Ladies Captain 2024-2025

I started playing golf at the ripe old age of 23. Got a handicap of 36* and was hooked. I joined Copthorne Golf Club in Sussex and got my handicap down to 8 and was the Ladies Club Champion for 8 years in succession. I also worked at the golf club for 6 years as the Assistant Club Secretary. I was then approached by the Mens Sussex County Golf Union and asked if I would like to join them.

I went to work for the Union in 1992 and stayed with them until 2014. When I retired at the end of 2014 I became the Sussex Boys U14 Team Manager for 2 years. I had left Copthorne GC in 1994 and joined Eastbourne Downs GC where I got my handicap down to 6. I was Ladies’ Captain there in 2014. I played for the Sussex Ladies County 2nd Team (6 wasn’t good enough for the first team) and also played for the Sussex Seniors when I reached 50.

I had also played for the Sussex Girls Team when I was 25, I had no idea you had to be under 18 to play for the girls, the team manager didn’t ask me my age when she asked me to play!! To date I have played 170 golf courses and would pick Valderama, Spain and Kingsbarns, Scotland as my 2 favourite courses. My golfing idol is Seve, whom I have met twice.

When we moved to Pembrokeshire in 2017 we didn’t look further than Haverfordwest GC as we had received such a warm welcome when visiting the club. Having worked in golf for 28 years I told Tony that I wouldn’t be joining any committees. I lied! Nearly 8 years on I’m very proud to be the Haverfordwest GC Ladies’ Captain and to be starting my 2nd year as the Ladies County Captain of the Carmarthenshire & Pembrokeshire County Ladies Golf Association
